Safety Award Finalist to Present at 2016 Forum

HOUSTON, TX -  July 28, 2016 – Today the Center for Offshore Safety (COS) announced that it will again showcase the COS Safety Leadership award finalists during “Spotlight on Excellence” sessions at the upcoming 4th Annual Safety Forum on September 20th and 21st.  These represent the most outstanding contributions to improving offshore safety management and Anadarko, Baker Hughes, BP, Halliburton, Shell and Schlumberger will be presenting their nominated safety programs to share the achievements made in 2015.

“Our 2015 winners Anadarko & Halliburton exemplify what it means to be a COS member as well as a safety leader,” said COS Executive Director Charlie Williams. “Although it was very difficult to pick a winner from this year’s finalists, it was the commitment to sharing and raising the collective knowledge of the industry as a whole that helped them win this award. We look forward to all of our finalists’ presentations as industry continues to promote the world’s best safety programs as a “Spotlight on Excellence” at our upcoming COS Safety Forum.”

This year’s winner in the Operator category was Anadarko Petroleum Corporation who nominated their relationship-based Gulf of Mexico Integral Safety Culture program called LiveSAFE.  Their LiveSAFE Training Team has trained over 10,000 employees and contractors, 3rd party service providers since its inception in 2008, with over 85% of those being non-employees.  Through these LiveSAFE orientations and numerous other industry presentations, Anadarko is helping to positively influence the safety culture of the entire GoM Industry.  A strong safety culture is absolutely essential to strong safety performance, and works hand-in-hand with an effective management system to improve safety and environmental performance.”

Halliburton is the contractor winner for their nominated Dropped Objects Prevention program which demonstrated safety leadership by openly sharing incident details and lessons learned with employees, customers, contractors and even competitors. Through this process, they have gained candid feedback that is crucial for continuous improvement enabling safe work practices designed to protect works to evolve along with the advancements made in technology, efficiency capabilities of the oil and gas industry.

Since its creation in 2011, the Center for Offshore Safety (COS), has been working with industry stakeholders to promote the highest level of safety.  One way the COS does this is through the annual Safety Leadership award recognition program. The vision for this recognition program is to encourage and reward outstanding contributions to improving safety management through leadership, communication and teamwork by industry participants. This enables the COS to stimulate the sharing of such successful safety programs leading to an enhancement of the collective knowledge of the industry.

The selection criteria for the recognition program include several key components that the nomination must meet (1) Outstanding achievement, (2) Leadership demonstration, (3) Knowledge advancement, (4) Sharing with industry.
